Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova has reconfirmed its status as an internationally accredited institution according to the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). On May 2, 2025, the University received the Certificate of International Institutional Accreditation, for a period of 5 years, issued by the Decision of the Accreditation Council of the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR) (Minutes No. 95 of April 30, 2025).
According to the Evaluation Report, the external commission identified several strengths in the activity of Nicolae Testemitanu University, including the availability of internal legislative acts regulating the policies and procedures for evaluating the academic performance of study beneficiaries at all levels. Another positive aspect is systematic questioning of students regarding their degree of satisfaction with the teaching-learning-evaluation system, a practice that contributes to the continuous improvement of the teaching process quality.
The University Management Information System, developed by the institution, allows for the reliable implementation of a rigorous assessment policy on the test tasks validity. Students benefit from a transparent framework, being assured that they will receive the results of the assessments within a reasonable time frame, accompanied by constructive and fair feedback.
Another strong point noted by the commission is the spirit of institutional belonging and the dedication of the administrative team, the teaching staff and the entire university personnel. At the same time, the existence of an effective human resources development policy, oriented towards motivating and stimulating teaching staff, contributes to the continuous improvement of their experience in the fields of education and research.
The Commission also appreciated the significant number of scientific and teaching staff members holding the titles of Doctor of Sciences and Habilitated Doctor of Sciences, having extensive teaching experience accumulated within the institution. Moreover, a high satisfaction rate of the academic staff interviewed was noted. The quality assurance policy is well-founded, clearly reflecting the link between research, teaching and learning, considering the national and institutional specificities, the report also states.
In this context, the Commission of External Experts came up with several recommendations to continuously improve the quality of education in the field of medicine and pharmacy: developing the university infrastructure and the technical and material base, including by creating the University Hospital by 2029-2030, implementing the FORCE_Farm subproject with the aim of strengthening the capacities of the Drug Development Center, the Scientific and Practical Center in the Field of Medicinal Plants, as well as creating a learning and research center, equipped with specialized educational systems, to involve students in simulations and experiments at the stages of drug development, analysis and standardization by 2026-2027.
Rector Emil Ceban has appreciated the activity of the External Commission and emphasized the considerable effort of the entire academic community in achieving these results, highlighting the fact that Nicolae Testemitanu University is distinguished by a professional, responsible and devoted team, determined and oriented towards success.
"In the future, the implementation of several research projects, the expansion of CUSIM and the construction of a new teaching block are to follow. We want to create a university hospital - a pressing necessity that will bring added value to the University, the entire medical system and the people of the country. We will take into account the observations and recommendations of the commission, we will examine them thoroughly and we will implement them", Rector Ceban pointed out.
The IAAR Accreditation Commission was on an evaluation mission to our university between March 17-19, 2025.
We should remind that, for the first time, Nicolae Testemitanu University obtained international institutional accreditation on June 14, 2019, according to WFME standards for a period of 5 years. Subsequently, in 2022, the integrated study programs in Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy were internationally accredited.
