Brief history

At present, the university studies at the Department of Forensic Medicine are intended for students from faculties of Medicine No. 1, Medicine No. 2, Dentistry and the Public Health Study Program. The Department also trains resident forensic doctors, morphopathologists and surgeons, as well as forensic practitioners in the context of continuing medical education. At the same time, the employees of the Department participate in the training of legal staff at the law faculties of the State University of Moldova, the National Institute of Justice and Stefan cel Mare Police Academy.

The employees of the Department have published about 900 scientific papers, including 18 monographs, 6 textbooks, 13 teaching courses and methodical instructions. 50 certificates of innovation and 11 patents of inventions were obtained. Eight works have been patented.

Year 2010

Starting with 2010, the department has been teaching Medical Law course.
Year 2008

From 2008 up till now, Associate Professor Andrei Pădure has been the head of the Department.
Year 2003

The training of specialists in forensic medicine is carried out through residency, which started in 2003.
Year 1997

In 1997 (until 2005), a new form of specialization in forensic medicine was introduced at the Department for the first time - the master's degree. Vasile Șarpe, Iurie Prisăcaru and Pavel Stratan represented the first class of master students.
Year 1995

In July 1995, university professor Gheorghe Baciu became the head of the department.
Year 1975

In 1975, the Department of Forensic Medicine was re-established and local professor Gheorghe Botezatu took the helm.
Year 1972

The Department of Forensic Medicine was merged with the Department of Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy during the period 1972 -1975.
Year 1968

Between 1968 - 1971, the Department was chaired by Professor Adrian Curdiumov, a delegate from Moscow.
Year 1966

From 1966 to1968, professor Petru Areșev's successor was Gheorghe Botezatu, a doctor of medicine.
Year 1965

Secondary medical education was introduced at the Department as a form of postgraduate training.
Year 1963

In 1963, the training of scientific-teaching staff through doctoral studies was introduced. The first doctoral student was Gheorghe Baciu, under the leadership of Professor Petru Areșev.
Year 1955

Petru Areșev organized for the first time at the Department the student scientific circle, which serves as a form of enriching knowledge in forensic medicine.
Year 1950

Between 1950 -1966, scientific activity focused on pre-existing diseases in the expertise of people and violent death.
Year 1949

Between 1949-1966, the Chair was headed by Petru Areșev.
Year 1946

The study process began in March 1946.
Year 1945

Associate Professor Elena Ciucimariov served as the first head of department between 1945-1949.
Year 1945

The Department of Forensic Medicine was set up in 1945, with the founding of Chisinau State Institute of Medicine (currently - Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy).
